A Message From the Board

Some stories are
too important
to lose.

Canada’s armoured soldiers did not fight for glory. They fought for something far more precious — for their country, for their families, and for the freedoms we hold dear today.

From the muddy fields of Vimy Ridge to the beaches of Normandy, from the hills of Korea to peacekeeping missions around the world, the men and women of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps have answered every call with courage, skill, and an unbreakable spirit. Their machines — massive, thundering, and battle-scarred — are more than museum pieces. They are monuments.

Today, the Canadian Tank Museum is one of the finest military heritage institutions in the country. Yet our collection — over 150 military vehicles spanning a century of Canadian military history — has outgrown the walls that contain it. Dozens of irreplaceable artefacts remain in storage, unseen.

We are changing that. We are building a world-class home for Canada’s armoured heritage — purpose-built, permanent, and worthy of the people it honours. And we are asking proud Canadians like you to help make it possible.

Our Story

Guardians of Canada’s armoured heritage

The Canadian Tank Museum is home to one of the most significant collections of military vehicles in the world. Located in Oshawa, Ontario — the birthplace of Canada’s wartime automotive industry — the Museum preserves and presents the living history of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps.

From First World War M1917s to Cold War‑era Leopards, our collection spans every chapter of Canada’s armoured history — alongside the medals, personal effects, and archival documents of the men and women who served.

Operation

A purpose-built, world-class heritage facility on the South Field of the Oshawa Executive Airport — designed by Barry Bryan Associates, and built in the spirit of “Fighting Frank” Worthington, father of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps.

The Commitment

City of Oshawa support secured. Transport Canada approval in place. Operating lease extended to 2067. Groundbreaking targeted before 2034.

The Scale

90,492 sq ft of purpose-built space across three levels — more than tripling the Museum’s current capacity, with room to grow further.

The Momentum

$5 million already committed from private donors. Architectural planning underway. Government partnerships being established.

Why It Matters

For every Canadian who asks why.

“Was someone really inside that?”

Every year, thousands of Canadians walk through our doors. Veterans who want their service remembered. Families who want to understand what their grandparents faced. Children who look up at a 40‑tonne tank and ask, with wide eyes, if someone was really inside it.

The answer to that question is the reason this museum exists. And the new facility we are building will ensure that question can be asked — and answered with pride — for generations to come.

“When we preserve these machines, we preserve the memory the men and women who crewed them. Their courage deserves a home that matches their sacrifice.”
